Focus here for

Why is focus important?

In today’s world, focus and clarity are one of the most important things that we need to possess and yet one of the hardest.

How? Good news!

We’ve spent the past year speaking to leading neuroscientists, composers and technologists to see how we can really be using our senses to get into ideal flow states.

Below you can find just a few bitesize activities that will help to give you an insight into how you can use the most powerful tools that you possess, your senses, your body and your mind.

“Whilst listening to The Zensory binaural beats, I got more work done in two hours than I had got done in the past three weeks”.
Ben Smith, Founder of Xcellerate.

3 Scents for Focus

Our sense of smell is one of the most powerful senses, as it can be nostalgic, invigorating, or relaxing. This is not surprising: it is the most direct link to the memory center (hippocampus) within our brains (Harvard 2020). We have selected three smells that can impact deep focus. These are some of our favorites, but of course they are only a tiny snapshot of the endless possibilities that can be made...

Breathing for Focus

The breath can be a phenomenal tool for the body, breathwork can help aid positive self-development, boost immunity, enrich creativity and increase focus. So, let’s launch into the good stuff… below is a breathing technique to help you to heighten performance and concentration whilst also relieving stress.

How? Inhale for a count of four, hold the breath in for a count of four, exhale for a count of four, hold the breath out for a count of four, and continue repeating in this manner. This practice can be done with a count of any number; it is recommended to begin with four and increase your counts as you are able.

Science? Square breathing helps regulate the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide in our bodies, which can often be out of balance when anxiety is at play. Breath and productivity go hand in hand. Incorrect breathing not only reduces your productivity levels; it can also lead to an increase in your heart rate, the same way sleep apnea quickens the pulse as the body struggles to take in oxygen.
